Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada but grew up in the United States. She has worked as media critic since. Feminist Frequency is a site which hosts video and commentary looking at the portrayals of women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. She is the founder and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop media narratives. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular media, she is also working on issues related the targeted harassment women and other classes of people online. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity as well as feminist ideas. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency Website. The ambitious lady planned to launch a web series on gender-based representations in video games. However, she found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. The attack wasn't enough to deter her. Instead, it strengthened her commitment to being a feminist and a media critique. The award-winning journalist has received numerous accolades for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feministism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her role as a critic of media and also founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in pop culture today.
